Back when Armin was still good

Wow... I really enjoyed listening to this mix. It reminded me of when I used to rate Armin as a DJ whereas today I tend to avoid what he does because he's become too commercialised. This is a lot deeper than his radio-friendly ASoT mixes he churns out each week, which is a good thing, imo.

His mixing isn't perfect and there are a few places where he brings tracks in a couple of bars too early, but he's never been flawless and still isn't, imo. The track selection, though, can't be faulted. There are some classics hidden in there but it's not just crowd-pleasing anthem after anthem after anthem.

This promo set

I went to this party at club maze in Miami, markus Schultz opened up for him. It was horribly promoted and they had maybe 50 people in there, few if any of us paid to get in. Armin was a good sport and played some fire before bailing out way early. I miss party 93.1, props for putting dance music on the radio.

good mix but

I loved slam fm (22-09-00) more than this. I agree with the mixing, he was never a tenaglia or howells but I love this era because he likes to go into 6th gear. I find that recently, he does not go into that end of the mix blinders anymore.
