Tom Moulton - Sandpiper Tape - Summer 1974

Cover (front)

The Sandpiper was a resturant located on Fire Island, New York during the 1970s and 1980s.

At night between midnight and 4am it became a disco.

It was also the venue where legendary recorder, producer and creator of the 12" record Tom Moulton made his name.

He made tapes for the nightclub like this one, during its hey-day to keep people on the dancefloor and he claims each tape would take an average time of 80 hours to make - keep in mind, this was in 1974!!

Way before mixing software... pitch control...

Don't have tracklistings for it though if you know the songs just comment below and enjoy. :)

Very nice

This is really old disco: 1974 was very early, way before the general public discovered disco. These are the songs that are still soul-with-a-beat rather than the more machine produced disco of later years.

Very intriguing to hear this. Btw, note the bpm, which is very moderate for today's notions of dance music.
