Bill Hamel - Club XL (03-05-11) (Set 1)

  • Title: Bill Hamel - Club XL (03-05-11) Set 1
  • Artist: Bill Hamel
  • Length: 26:48 minutes (61.36 MB)
  • Format: MP3 Stereo 44kHz 320Kbps (CBR)
Type of Music:

Bill Hamel has largely been under the radar for a long time. Remember he did Balance 003 and he did the nasty nasty remix of Michael Burns - Into Nothing (Last Time for 9 Mix). Its a little short, I will follow up with set 2....

Unusual sound.

It's a bit of an unusual sound: high tempo, uplifting, with a harder edge, and plenty of breakbeat. Reminiscent of Derek Howell (I've just re-listened to the only Howell set on Mixriot: recommended), or BT circa Movement In Still Life (a big robotperson favourite). No surprise when Hamel reveals he's worked with BT later on in this set.

Astonishingly he describes his sound as electro-house / indie-dance crossover, at least for part one. Not sure I'm with you there Bill.

I've had the balance mix from when it was released and this is very different: much more urgent and immediate. Could it be argued that it's actually a bit of a dated sound? A bit 2003 perhaps? Either way, thanks for posting Murren, I've really enjoyed both parts. It would be good to see a tracklist.
