In my ever continuing goal to push more old skool mixes on mixriot and to push more quality and history to the massive who only know the current names.

Derrick May = Techno Godfather, he was part of the belleville three along with atkins and saunderson. Sadly since 1994, Derrick May has not released much in terms of albums because his feelings got hurt by a bad review. He has 1000's of tracks ready to be released. Also he is quite pompous and from what I hear, a real asshole but still a music legend. Here is a mix from Bristol in 1990 (hell Nick Warren was probably still Gary Glitter's gameskeeper then).

Comments

he\s fucking nuts

All of the detroit guys were fucked up in the head. Juan Atkins got in a argument with that vietnam vet ????Rick Davis?????, was it cybotron and he split from him and went on to push more sounds.

Derrick May tried to blackball Blake Baxter out of Detroit, if the story is true. May has not released a real artist CD under his own name because he got pissed off at the press slating him. I am told he has a ton of tracks (which he probably uses in his own sets). Derrick May has a history of not showing up, not caring.

Jeff Mills is apparantly quite ignorant. I was told by a club promoter in Toronto, yrs ago that he lived in London and only came to clubs that were willing to pay him 25,000 Euros to deejay.

Mad Mike Banks....well just look at UR and you will understand.

Derrick May is actually

Derrick May is actually quite bonkers, if you have heard him in conversation I think!
He is a very good DJ none the less. His shows on BBC 6 Music (6 Mix) are worth a listen, but we can't u/l them here, try the mixingbowl.org though.

now that I get a complete listen in

House and Techno's roots often get forgotten by deejays who are now so old, they are old enough to be our parents. Derrick May sure plays some classic tracks here

Strings Of Life (one of my fave alltime tracks, I like it more as Knights of The Jaguar by Rolando)

LFO - LFO (never tire of that one)

If this gets great feedback, I will pull out my mixmag CD - I Love 1991 and post it.
