Dig that?
1st 1/2 of this tape-set has Dan tossing out classic acid & electro house as per the era. It's relatively tame, to be sure. But that was once his modus operandi--get 'em grooving then rock their bloody socks off. 2nd side has Dan doing just this. Electrohouse lulls the listener to a state of somnolent rave bliss while acid keeps you slightly unsettled, then Dan's blend of gnarly broken funk enters. Just to put it into perspective, this was from a time when events were in grungy warehouses--no Armani, no Boss. Gear was for working it. Promoters had "themes", which was typically dressing the venue up as best as possible to disguise the foul scent of manufacturing or factory farming. Things were raw. Get 2k of those precious few in-the-know at the event...all bets were off. Throw this now "dated" sound into the mix, & MAD dancing followed. Remember, this was a live set. There's something unusual about Dan's old style, it's aggro hip hop & electro-party character. The scratching is legit too. Sound quality isn't all that here, that's for sure, but that won't stop bringing an old 'head back. That it does ;) Too bad we don't get to hear where it went.
