Fantastic
Just love this mix. I listen to it all the time.
Bit fluffy and not particularly focussed
I didn't really enjoy this very much, but I'm typically a huge fan of James' work. No disputing it's a collection of solid, deserving tracks, expertly put together. But that's it; by James' standards, they do feel merely put together in this instance. But then maybe I've been utterly spoilt by his jaw-dropping Life on the Moon mix last year--probably the best piece of work by a DJ I've ever heard, and expect it will be for a long time to come.
Previous EM
If you haven't heard it you should check out his Essential Mix with Nic Fanciulli from 2007. Similar to the Moon mix, it's threaded with samples from Sunshine and 2001. Brilliant brilliant brilliant, and definitely my favourite Essential mix.
@robotperson
Listened to that Zabiela/Fanciulli mix a couple of times now and it's excellent. Thanks again for the tip.
@robotperson
Excellent, thanks for the recommendation. :)
Incredible
Wow! what an incredible mix. I like when JZ goes in different obscure directions. Thats what I started liking him in the first place. This completly restored my faith in mr. Zabiela
meaningful
Most of the JZ mixes I've heard have fragments in them that are absolutely brilliant. The only one I really like all the way through was his April 2010 EM tribute to the movie 'Moon'. I think the last 30 minutes of his April 2004 EM are some of the most amazing shit I've ever heard. He stands out as a DJ that is really trying to craft something meaningful, and he achieves it 20-30 minutes at a time.
I really liked the first half of this mix, and then he lost me in a wash of forgettable throw-away tracks. Sometimes I want to make a mix of the best bits of JZ mixes I have ;)
nice
any ideas on a track list for this? Do you know what the track at the 1:03.30 mark is?
I didn't and don't like drum
I didn't and don't like drum and bass, however I loved the start, end and everything else in the mix. I can see what he's trying to do and a very good job indeed, 9/10 for me, minus the drum'n'bass gash.
Pure Love.
Beautiful.
awesome
I havent listened to something this good is ages.
awesome mix
Epic
Love it, really diverse
Spellbinding
There is JZ and then there is everyone else.
So good...
Is that a cello 37 mins in? Fantastic track. Zabiela mixes are always such a treat. Thank you!
Diverse, atmospheric sounds
Reminiscent of James Holden's superb Balance mix - not in terms of tempo, but in terms of vibe, and also Arovane's Lillies album. Maybe he shouldn't get creds just for walking round with a dictaphone and adding it to the mix, but I like it.
Agreed.
Nice reference to Holden's Balance - vibe is very similar. Listened to this 3x this past wk, which is remarkable given a demanding career & family responsibilties. Solid, solid mix. Heavier than the Zero Rendered sets but just as groovy. Even though Unkle's "Do Android's Dream of Electronic Beats" is infintely more diverse, one can't help but wonder if Zab just might be an android himself. totus tuus
