Bakers

Yes it was a fairly small club situated on the second floor above a shopping precinct in Birmingham. Only 1 room very long and narrow, great sound system and atmosphere. I remember always looking forward to them opening the outdoor balcony because as mentioned it did get very hot and sweaty. Thanks for uploading this always nice to listen to a set that takes you back down memory lane..... NICE ONE....

Normally I am crap at ID-ing sets, but I can manage about 99% of these, as they are such classic tracks.

The O.T. Quartet - Hold That Sucker Down (Builds Like a Skyscraper Mix) is a top, top remix of that tune.

I actually first heard this remix in Republica at Bakers on Broad Street in Birmingham in 1996 - I kid you not.

I was smashed at the time, and it made me lose it totally! I can still remember hearing that tune drop even now. The club was smokey as hell and all I could see was arms and hands waving and lit up smoke from the lazer as I danced on a little podium by the wall. And recall being very sweaty.

Magic moments! Such a shame that the club shut. Matt Hardwick used to play there on weekends too (forget the night, but the flyers had a little devil holding a trident on it?) and even Gatecrasher used to be there before they upped sticks and went to the Republic in Sheffield, 'cause Bakers was so small.

It was called Decadence, the one with the little devil holding a trident!
